LMS Configuration

The LMS Configuration page defines the core academic rules for your entire school. Everything from your grading scale (A+, A, B…) to exam weightages, passing thresholds, report card layouts, and principal approval workflows is configured here.

Where to find it: Go to Settings → Configuration → LMS (/settings/config/lms).

Quick Setup with Board Presets

Setting up an evaluation framework manually can take hours. Pasarai includes a 1-Click Board Preset Wizard that pre-populates everything according to official education board standards.

Click Quick Setup with Board Preset in the top-right header and pick your curriculum:

Tip: You can run the preset wizard at any time. After applying a preset, you can fine-tune every individual setting to fit your school’s exact needs.

1. Assessment Framework & Weights

The Assessment Framework controls how exams translate into final report card marks.

Terms Per Year

Choose how your academic calendar is structured:

• Annual (1 Term): Single cumulative end-of-year assessment.
• Semester (2 Terms): Term 1 (Half-Yearly) and Term 2 (Finals).
• Trimester (3 Terms): Quarterly/Term 1, Term 2, and Term 3.
• Quarterly (4 Terms): Four distinct reporting quarters.

Assessment Categories & Weightages

Break down your final subject score into weighted components. For example:

• Internal Assessment (IA / FA): Weightage 20% (class tests, quizzes, practical work, notebooks).
• Term Examination (SA / TE): Weightage 80% (formal written term exam).

Rule: The sum of all active assessment category weights must equal 100%.

Mapped Exam Types

Link each category to specific exam types in the system:

• Check off which exams count toward this category (e.g. Unit Tests and Practicals map to Internal Assessment; Half-Yearly and Annual map to Term Examination).

Pass Mark & Grace Mark Policy

• Default Pass Percentage: The minimum score required to pass a subject (typically 33% for CBSE, 35% for State Board, 40% for ICSE/IB).
• Grace Marks: When enabled, the calculation engine automatically awards borderline students a small boost if they are close to passing:
  • Max per subject: Maximum marks that can be added to one subject (e.g. up to 2 marks).
  • Max total cap: Total grace marks across all subjects capped at a percentage of grand total marks (e.g. 1%).

Missing Data Handling

What happens if a student misses a test or their score is not entered?

• Drop from aggregate: The missing subject is excluded, and the student’s total percentage is re-scaled based on the remaining subjects.
• Proportional extrapolation: The student’s score is scaled proportionally based on their other assessments.
• Include as zero marks: The missing test is treated as a score of 0.
• Mark result as Incomplete: The report card is held back until all required scores are provided.

2. Grading Scales & Overrides

Define the grading systems used to convert raw percentages into letter grades or grade points.

Supported Grading Systems

1. Letter Grade: Standard letters such as A+, A, B+, B, C, D, F.
2. Percentage: Displays raw percentages and completion bands.
3. GPA Scale: Numeric grade points on a 10.0, 7.0, or 4.0 scale for higher secondary or international curricula.

Configuring Grade Bands

Each grading scale contains an ordered list of grade bands:

• Grade Label: The displayed mark (e.g. A1, B2).
• Minimum Percentage: The lowest score that qualifies for this grade (e.g. 91%).
• Grade Point: Numeric value used for calculating weighted CGPA (e.g. 10.0).
• Is Failing Band: Flag bands that represent failure (e.g. E, F, U) so they automatically trigger academic intervention alerts.

Multi-Level Resolution Hierarchy

Different grade levels or subjects often need different grading scales (e.g. Primary classes use descriptive letter grades, while High School uses CBSE 9-point scales).

Pasarai resolves grading scales using a clear priority order:

1. Subject-Specific Scale: Takes highest priority if defined.
2. Class / Standard-Specific Scale: Applied to an entire grade level (e.g., Classes 11–12).
3. Category-Specific Scale: Applied to specific exam types (e.g., Practicals).
4. Default School Scale: Fallback scale for all unassigned subjects and classes.

3. Co-Scholastic & Life Skills

Modern education evaluates more than just textbook tests. The Co-Scholastic section allows you to record and report non-academic development, aligned with NEP 2020 §4.34 and NCERT PARAKH guidelines.

Standard Evaluated Areas

• Visual & Performing Arts: Music, dance, drawing, theatre.
• Health & Physical Education: Sports, athletics, yoga, team games.
• Work Education & Pre-Vocational: Computing, handicrafts, practical life skills.
• Discipline & Values: Sincerity, punctuality, teamwork, social responsibility.

Rating Bands

Co-scholastic areas typically use a 3-point or 5-point qualitative rubric:

• A → Exemplary / Always demonstrates
• B → Proficient / Usually demonstrates
• C → Developing / Requires guidance

You can create custom rubrics for each standard or apply them school-wide.

4. Report Card Design & Templates

Customize the appearance, sections, and layout of the official student report card.

Layout Styles

• Numeric-First: Focuses on raw marks, maximum marks, and total percentages. Ideal for state boards and secondary exams.
• Hybrid (Recommended): Displays marks obtained alongside letter grades, attendance percentages, and teacher remarks.
• Holistic (HPC): Formatted as a 360-degree PARAKH Holistic Progress Card, incorporating self-reflection, peer review, and teacher feedback across Cognitive, Affective, and Psychomotor domains.

Included Sections

Toggle any section on or off to match your school’s reporting policy:

• Student Information: Roll number, admission number, date of birth, section, and student photo.
• Academic Performance: Scholastic marks table with subject breakdown and category weights.
• Co-Scholastic Areas: Rating bands for arts, sports, and conduct.
• Attendance Summary: Working days, days attended, and attendance percentage.
• Health & Fitness Record: Height, weight, BMI, dental check, and vision test results.
• Teacher & Principal Remarks: Narrative observations with official digital sign-off.
• Custom Sections: Add arbitrary text blocks (e.g., “Principal’s Term Note”) or user-defined tables (e.g., “School Club Participation”).

5. Moderation & Release Policy

Prevent unauthorized score leaks and ensure every report card is double-checked before parents can view it.

Multi-Stage Approval Pipeline

Choose which staff members must review report cards before they can be distributed:

• Stage 1 (Mandatory): Class Teacher: Verifies student attendance, behavior remarks, and marks completion.
• Stage 2: Department Head (HOD): Audits grading consistency across sections and subject marks.
• Stage 3: Principal Sign-off: Grants final authorization to release results to students and parents.

Audit Trail: If any approver spots a mistake, they can reject the report card with a comment. Every change and approval transition is permanently recorded in the audit log.

Release Modes

• Immediate: Report cards are visible to parents as soon as the snapshot is generated.
• After Approval: Report cards become visible the moment the final approver in your pipeline clicks Approve.
• Scheduled (Embargo): Set a future publication date and time. Before this time, the parent portal displays an interactive Release Countdown Timer, keeping results locked until the official announcement moment.

Distribution Channels

Select how parents and students receive their results:

• Parent & Student Portal: Instant digital download and review via the web portal.
• Printed Report Card: Generates print-ready high-resolution A4 layouts with school crest and signature blocks.
• PTM Handover: Marks report cards ready for distribution during Parent-Teacher Meetings.
• Automated Alerts: Optional WhatsApp, SMS, or Email notifications sent to parents when results go live.
